For the retracted counter in our car we will probably be able to claim compensation - he said in the program "Bilans" on TVN[24] BiS Andrzej Dmowski, partner in Russell Bedford Poland. In this way, he commented on the proposals for new rules which severely punish those who twist the counters.
The government accepted proposals for changes to the law prepared in the Justice Ministry, which will help to reduce the twisting of meters in used cars. He'll be threatened by three months to five years in prison. Both the person who orders the counter to be withdrawn and the contractor to be responsible for fraud, e.g. the mechanic in the workshop.
- If we find out that we were sold a car that has a twisted counter and this twist occurred for the previous owner, then according to the law it is he who is the legal responsibility - said Dr Andrzej Dmowski.
He added that if we change the technical parameters of the vehicle or replace the counter, we already fill in the prohibited act. - We can only replace the counter if it has been damaged or when it is necessary to replace the entire component - he explained.
As he said, the preventive element is important in the new law. - He's targeting unfair auto shops. Today, the workshops explain that they are reversing the meters, but not to mislead anyone, only at the request of the current owner. Now it is not a crime, but after the change of regulations it will be - he stressed.
Dmowski pointed out that for the reverse counter we would be able to claim compensation. - Among other things, the difference between the market value of this car, which should be lower due to its consumption and the value we paid for the car, he said.
