The Executive Director of the European Union told Rome to present a new fiscal plan, but the Italian Government operates independently.

Sugar tax will increase funding for education

Ruocco, chairman of the Finance Committee, did not give details of the tax intended to cover high-sugar drinks, but said that the revenue from it would be used to reduce taxes for self-employed people and increase funding for universities.

Amnesty dispute settled

Amnesty, which allows people to settle tax disputes with the authorities, by paying a limited amount, divided the ruling coalition. It is popular among League voters who built support in northern Italy among small businesses and self-employed people, where tax evasion is common.

However, the so-called "fiscal decree", including, among other things, provisions on tax amnesty related to the budget, caused concern in the Movement five Stars that base most of their action on combating illegality and corruption. Apparently, however, the coalitions came to an agreement.

"There is full agreement on the fiscal decree," says the League statement. Under the amnesty agreement will now be available only to those who have made correct tax returns but were unable to pay full taxes.
