In days 20–22 May in the luxurious Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva, located on the magnificent Lake Geneva in Switzerland, held the International Tax Conference and EMEA 2022 Russell Bedford.
After two We have enjoyed reopening the International Tax Conference and the EMEA as an offline event, especially unique thanks to the spectacular environment that Geneva has to offer. Opening this year's conference, President Russell Bedford, Bruce Saward, welcomed delegates in Geneva after a two-year break, followed by a session led by CEO Stephen Hamlet, on what is happening in Russell Bedford.
Nabil-Jean Sab and Roland Burger, representatives of the host company, Russell Bedford Fiduciaire Genève SA, welcomed delegates in their hometown at the next session.
Then Niklas Schmidt, head of the tax department at Wolf Theiss, one from leading law firms in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, he joined us with the lecture "Crypto Assets – what tax practitioners should know".
Niklas is one from leading international tax lawyers in Austria, specializing in international taxes, private customers, foundations/trusts and cryptographic assets/blockchains.
After a break Thomas Tindemans, President of Hill+Knowlton Strategies, an international public relations company based in Belgium, joined the discussion “The Challenges ahead: Europe in 2022”. Thomas is a Belgian citizen from over 30-summer experience in public affairs and communication in the EU, and has given our group the most informative and engaging look at the main challenges facing the continent today.
The delegates then listened to some of our new companies from the EMEA region in Athens (Greece), Accra (Ghana), Tuscany (Italy), Marseille (France) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo).
After an excellent morning program, delegates interrupted meetings and went to a networking lunch with a view of Lake Geneva.
The afternoon program began with a very exciting session, as the conference hosted a former professional tennis player and senior expert at the Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) Pioneer UEFA (Union of European Football Unions), Filippo Veglio. Filippo is responsible for developing and implementing the Football Sustainability Strategy 2030, to initiate, inspire and accelerate collective action to respect human rights and the environment in European football.
Because Russell Bedford aims to create a better future through proactive leadership in contemporary and sustainable issues such as DEI (diversity, equality and integration), ESG (environment, social management and management) and CSR (social business responsibility), the inclusion of Filippo was important.
Last Session first he led Jeremy Mindell, director at Primondell, a tax and accounting firm covering a wide range of specialisations, from tax investigations to HR issues related to business restructuring and transformations.
Jeremy's knowledge, as always, was impressive because he admired the summary of current international tax issues (including BEPS) 2.0, changes in transfer prices, tax changes in response to COVID, international enforcement coordination, etc.
After completion first On the day of the conference, delegates gathered again in the evening for drinks, dinner and traditional music to experience a truly Swiss fondue and folk music, at the Edelweiss restaurant.
Day second conference opened Stephen Hamlet, reminding delegates of the strategic positioning of the network, revealed at the end of last year, and followed by Maribel Ortega, a leadership coach who specializes in helping women to advance to executive positions. In sharing her own personal experiences, Maribel joined the discussion "Moving on a Cultural Map".
A series of workshops for delegates to choose from, including audit and accounting: an update on hot topics by David Norris, head of audit and accounting department and compliance with Mercia Group, one from the largest British providers of training services and support for the accounting profession.
Partners from the London member company Lubbock Fine, Phil Blackburn and Graham Caddock led workshops on the possibility of voluntary tax disclosure;
and after a short break in networking Maribel Ortega returned to lead the excellent Building a Dream Team.
Several other members of the Lubbock Fine team, including David Portman and Robert Hoad, led another in-depth session based on a case study: "International mobility – traps on workers and employers".
After a networking lunch, the afternoon workshops were resumed and included "New international quality management standards: Are you ready?”, led again by David Norris, while partners from Swiss member companies Russell Bedford led a workshop on "Switzerland: tax system and planning opportunities".
After another short break in networking, the last workshops of the day were resumed, including: "How technology changes the world of accounting", which were conducted by Sandeep Shrestha and Nadia Burgan (Thomson Reuters), and a round table discussion for French-speaking members to discuss opportunities for cooperation and mutual support.
After the conference, the delegates interrupted the evening to later reunite for drinks, dinner and entertainment at the fabulous restaurant la Perle du Lac with a breathtaking view of Lake Geneva.
