Employers may require employees to vaccinate or perform a coronavirus test before coming to work, even against their will, decided by the Regional Labour Court in Tel Aviv.
The court decision was made in response to a petition by an employee of the national water supply company Mekorot against his employer. Mekorot announced that unvaccinated workers or those who failed to present a negative test result could not come to work.
The judges stated that Mekorot's request to require employees to vaccinate or to present two negative coronavirus tests per week was justified in view of the increasing rate of infection COVID-19.
So far, the government has been paying for the coronavirus tests. Now, thanks to the new Green Pass regulations, it is likely that employees will have to pay for their own tests at around 52 NIS (approx. 62 PLN) For everyone.
The ruling of the Israeli court is a precedent for other Israeli companies that can force their employees to inoculate themselves against the coronavirus or perform tests against their will.
Mekorot is a state-owned company operating within the Ministry of Energy and Finance. The decision may apply to government and private companies.
Similarly, in the US, several large companies, including Facebook and Google, demanded that employees be vaccinated for office work.
