In the Sejm, a permanent subcommittee on artificial intelligence and transparency of algorithms was established.
On 25 January 2024 a permanent subcommittee on artificial intelligence and transparency of algorithms was established during the current term of office of the Sejm, which is first a permanent subcommittee within the Digital, Innovation and Modern Technologies Commission. The purpose of the subcommittee is to discuss the impact of algorithms and artificial intelligence on different aspects of life. It is intended to be a place of exchange of views on the opportunities and risks involved.
The sub-committee on artificial intelligence and transparency of algorithms will deal with the following tasks:
- conducting discussions on strategies and directions for the development of artificial intelligence in Poland and the European Union,
- support and promotion of the ecosystem of Polish research, development and commercial projects in the field of artificial intelligence tools and the understanding of algorithms,
- development of regulations on the use of data to train artificial intelligence models, as well as artificial intelligence applications in the economy and public administration,
- the development of rules on the control of algorithms used in order to ensure compliance with the applicable law and in particular to combat discrimination;
- animate discussions on the use of artificial intelligence in public administration to support public service provision,
- promoting knowledge of the risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence and the development of regulations relating to new threats,
- establish cooperation with research centres and research entities specialising in innovation in the field of artificial intelligence, creation of applications, use of algorithms.
Artificial intelligence and its accompanying algorithms are often referred to as a steam machine of the 21st century, i.e. a completely new stage in the development of the world and Polish economy (industry). 4.0.
A positive reference should be made to the efforts of the legislator to set up a permanent subcommittee on artificial intelligence and transparency of algorithms, as in order for Polish entrepreneurs to successfully compete in the global market, it is necessary to adapt the legal system to changing economic realities.
