Tax payers will also gain legal certainty in terms of records at the sales register for which payment was made through mail, bank or cooperative savings and credit bank. Tax explanations were issued at the request of entrepreneurs and the Ombudsman of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs.

The interpretation of the rules is binding on the tax administration.

What are virtual money?

Virtual cashier is a fiscal cashier in the form of an application, installed on a tablet, smartphone or laptop. The money is therefore software, not the device on which it is installed. Virtual cash registers may be used by taxable persons active primarily in the transport, hotel or catering sectors, i.e. those identified in the Regulation on groups of taxable persons or types of activities for which virtual cash registers can be used.

Tax explanations

Using virtual money is a safe and cheap way to record transactions between business and the consumer. Virtual money is convenient and easy to use. We want as many companies to use them as possible. Therefore, when purchasing them, the taxpayer is entitled to a tax credit. Thanks to the explanations, the principles of its application will no longer raise any doubt.

  • explains Deputy Minister of Finance Jan Sarnowski.

The explanations relate to the deduction (reimbursement) of the tax due amount spent on the purchase of virtual cash registers.

The taxpayer, obliged to exchange the old type money for online cash, can benefit from the relief to buy this money. The amount of preferences may reach 90% its purchase price of cash register (excluding tax), but not more than 700 PLN. The relief applies on the same terms to hardware and virtual cash registers

  • reminds Deputy Finance Minister Jan Sarnowski.

The tax explanations clarify, among others, the rules for recording sales payments when it occurs at the turn of months, through post office, bank or cooperative savings and credit bank. It is the moment when the transaction was recorded in the sales records when the payment was received after the sale was completed on a given day.

If the taxpayer is not aware of the payment to his bank account until the day following its order, at the time of receipt of the relevant information from the bank, he is required to immediately record the payment to the register office (on the day of reading the payment to the bank). If deposit occurs 31 March, and the taxpayer got information from the bank about the deposit 1 April, it should clear VAT from this payment for March, minus the data resulting from the interim report for April

  • explained Paweł Selera, Director of the Department of Tax on Goods and Services at the Ministry of Finance.
