The electric scooters are becoming more and more popular, resulting in a design for changing traffic regulations.
The Ministry of Infrastructure noted the increased movement of a new type of personal transport equipment – UTO, including electric scooters or electric boards.
A personal transport device shall be defined as a ‘constructive device intended to move only by the driver on that device, of a width not exceeding that in motion 0.9 m, length not exceeding 1.25 m, own weight not exceeding 20 kg, equipped with electric drive, the design of which limits the driving speed to 25 km/h’.
They can be used by persons above 10 years of age.
Under the new regulations proposed by infrastructure minister Andrzej Adamczyk and Deputy Minister Rafał Weber, UTO will be aligned in rights with bicycles.
As a general rule, the road infrastructure intended for the head of the uto will be:
- • roads for bicycles,
- • journeys for cyclists,
- • lanes for bicycles,
- • roads where the permissible speed is not greater than 30 km/h.
- • The footpath or pedestrian road, unless the infrastructure described above is available, will always have priority and the UTO user will be required to take special care.
